Channel 4 has revealed casting details for its new satire, The Windsors.

A spoof soap opera re-imagining the lives of the Royal Family, the 6-episode series begins recording today and will be broadcast later in the Spring.

Harry Enfield leads the cast as Prince Charles, with Haydn Gwynne of Drop The Dead Donkey fame playing Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall.

W1A's Hugh Skinner and Crashing star Louise Ford will take on the roles of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, aka 'Wils' and 'Kate'.

The rest of the core cast is comprised of Morgana Robinson as Kate's sister, Pippa; Richard Goulding as Prince Harry; Ellie White as Princess Beatrice and Celeste Dring as her sister, Eugenie. Katy Wix will play Sarah 'Fergie' Ferguson, with Tim Wallers as her former husband, Prince Andrew. Matthew Cottle plays Prince Edward.

Written by the co-creators of Star Stories, Bert Tyler-Moore and George Jeffrie, Channel 4 promise: "The Windsors will put our beloved Royal Family into the comedy spotlight. The series is a wry take on what the soap opera of their lives (and loves) might just be like. Delving behind the headlines and gossip columns, The Windsors lets our imaginations run riot in this ludicrous parody."

They explain: "Imagine, who really controls the sceptre in Charles and Camilla's marriage? What do the Royals really think of Kate? Does Wills really want to be King? Will Harry ever take Pippa up the aisle or will they end on a bum note? And what do Beatrice and Eugenie actually do for a living?"

Commissioner Phil Clarke says: "In The Windsors, our much-loved Royal Family is re-imagined through the lens of a soap opera, and although the stories are completely fictional, some are inspired by real events. As a result, writers Bert and George have outdone even the funniest, most ludicrous issue of Hello! magazine ever."

Executive producer for production company Noho Film and TV, Robert Wulff-Cochrane says: "Infused by our gossip-fuelled sense of what we think we know about them, The Windsors is a joyous weekly peek behind the curtains of Britain's most famous family."
