Comedy Central is developing a new sitcom project titled Wasteman.

BroadcastNow reports that the comedy will be based around the life of a man who becomes famous online after the event of him being dumped by his girlfriend on Facebook goes viral.

Comedy Central executive Jill Offman, talking about the plot of the show, explains: "This guy becomes incredibly famous because the dumping is so humiliating. He has to live as a famous viral as he tries to get his girlfriend back".

Production company Left Bank Pictures are reportedly preparing a read through of the script to convince Comedy Central to fund the filming of the pilot.

No other details about the project are currently known, but Comedy Central is expected to reveal more information should they officially commission the pilot.

Speaking this week at the Broadcast Commissioning Forum industry event this week, Comedy Central commissioner Jill Offman spoke about how the channel was looking for shows with "warmth, authenticity, youthfulness and edge."

She also indicated that the fact the channel was working on Wasteman demonstrated that the network was "always open to new 'noisy' ideas that appeal to young audiences."
