People Just Do Nothing, the critically-acclaimed BBC Three mockumentary about a pirate radio station, has been given a second series.

The show focuses on Kurupt FM, 'the second most popular pirate radio station in West London'. Run by MC Grindah (Allan Mustafa) and DJ Beats (Hugo Chegwin), the drum 'n' bass outfit isn't as popular as the creators think it is, yet they still boast the station receives 'up to eight texts per show'.

The programme, which first launched as one of the 2012 BBC Comedy Feed pilots, gained a four part series earlier this year. It was one of the first comedies to premiere first on the iPlayer, before getting a TV broadcast in the summer.

The BBC says: "Led by self-proclaimed garage legend MC Grindah and his second in command, DJ Beats, the Kurupt FM crew will be back to share more of the secrets from behind the mics at West London's second most popular pirate station, and their never-ending quest for expansion and air-time glory."

On learning that his fame is set to continue, the character MC Grindah said: "Big up everyone for showing love. We have infiltrated the industry and now we're gonna destroy it! ... Well, not destroy it... make it better probably."

Whereas DJ Steves said: "We're on a TV programme?"

Chabuddy G, the self-styled entrepreneur and the crew's fixer, can't wait to return to the limelight. He says: "Ah thank God. I could do with a bit of airtime. These re-usable laser eye surgery kits won't sell themselves."

The first series picked up some very positive press. The Stage commented the show was "fresh, original and very funny", Digital Spy labelled it "bloody brilliant" and The Radio Times noted it had "very funny gags".

People Just Do Nothing is notable in that it features mainly new comedy talent, rather than existing stars. In a blog post, co-creator Steve Stamp noted: "The fact that none of us had ever acted or written before never felt like a problem."

Five new half hour episodes have been ordered for 2015. Executive producer Ash Atalla says: "When new talent is this good, and this cheap, the BBC insists on a second series. In truth, I think People Just Do Nothing is at the start of a successful journey. I fully expect to see the boys looking awkward in tuxedos making a misjudged acceptance speech someday soon."

Producer Jon Petrie added: "We're chuffed that BBC Three has confirmed Series 2. We were very proud of our first series and are pleased to get the chance to spend more time with the Kurupt FM crew and their families."

Commissioning Editor Chris Sussman comments: "I'm delighted we've re-commissioned this series. I know for a fact it's one of the Director General's favourites. I once saw him in the lifts throwing his Ks up."
