GOLD has ordered a second series of You, Me & Them.

The sitcom stars Anthony Head and Eve Myles as Lauren and Ed, a couple who are madly in love, despite their 26-year age gap. The show focuses on how Lauren's family, Ed's ex-wife, and everyone else around them, seems to have an opinion on the subject.

The first series of You, Me & Them, which was GOLD's first original scripted sitcom, was broadcast in October and November last year. The show averaged under 150,000 viewers an episode: a figure above the repeats-based channel's regular ratings, and so another six episodes have been ordered.

Written by Steve Turner and filmed by Outnumbered producers Hat Trick Productions, Series 2 of You, Me & Them is expected to be filmed later this year for broadcast in 2015.

The channel has confirmed the scripted sitcom will again feature an all-star cast, with Hat Trick currently casting "new big name talent for cameo roles".

Steve North, General Manager of GOLD, said today: "The first series of You, Me & Them was funny, engaging and a perfect fit for GOLD's audience, and we're looking forward to even more laughs in this second series. We're thrilled the charming Anthony Head and talented Eve Myles are back, and we're in talks with high profile talent for cameo roles."

Executive Producer Jimmy Mulville added: "It's wonderful to be delivering a second series of this original comedy for UKTV, who couldn't be more supportive."

Commissioner Simon Lupton comments: "GOLD is committed to investing in fresh and quality programming, so we are delighted to be welcoming back the You, Me & Them family in all their eccentric glory and to be working with some of the best on and off screen comic talent."

Speaking at a television trade event in London, North also confirmed that GOLD is looking for additional new comedies for its 2015 schedules, and is offering budgets the same as terrestrial broadcasters such as Channel 4 and the BBC.

He described suitable prospective formats as having "warmth but definitely a bit of edge and modernness," and focusing on "small mundane elements of life with a bit of spike".
