Backchat, the comedic TV chat show format hosted by Jack Whitehall, is to return for a selection of brand new summer specials.

The BBC Three series sees the popular stand-up comedian present a chat show alongside his outspoken and opinionated father, Michael Whitehall. Both will return to film two new special episodes of Backchat this May.

One of the new episodes will be themed around the forthcoming World Cup, and the other will be based around the topic of Father's Day.

The episodes are set to be broadcast sometime in June, although the exact timings are yet to be announced. The football tournament begins on 12th June, and Father's Day is on Sunday 15th June this year.

News of the new specials confirms that BBC Three looks set to continue with the comedy format. A full second series has yet to be announced, but now seems a likely prospect. Backchat first launched in November, with Series 1 comprising of four episodes, followed by Christmas special and highlights special.

The show is made by Tiger Aspect Productions, and free tickets are now available to see the episodes being recorded on the 20th and 22nd May at Riverside Studios in London.

Jack Whitehall, who won the public-voted King Of Comedy award at the British Comedy Awards in December for the second year running, has a busy year ahead. He is working on both a US re-make and a third British series of sitcom Bad Education, will soon be seen in a new series of Sky1 panel show A League Of Their Own, and has various live stand-up commitments. His new live stand-up DVD is scheduled for release in November.
