House Of Fools, the sitcom series created by and starring Vic Reeves and Bob Mortimer, has been given a second series.

Writing on Twitter, Mortimer confirmed that BBC Two has ordered more episodes of the surreal and anarchic comedy show, posting in all capitals: "BBC COMMISSION 2ND SERIES OF HOUSE OF FOOLS!!"

BBC comedy commissioner Shane Allen said today: "House Of Fools is a much needed big old rainbow of daftness in a world that is too grey and sensible. Those two loveable twits work very hard at making something that looks so effortlessly silly and it's a thrill to know there's plenty more where that came from."

In a statement, Vic & Bob added: "We are overjoyed and thankful to our great Corporation for their diligence in this matter."

House Of Fools, which launched in January this year, is set in Bob Mortimer's home, a house he shares with Vic, his moody son Erik (Daniel Simonsen) and un-invited lodger and ex-criminal Bosh (Dan Skinner). The show also stars Matt Berry as the 'highly sexual' Beef and Morgana Robinson as their nymphomaniac neighbour Julie.

The complete cast will return for the second series, which will be written and filmed at MediaCityUK studios in Salford later this year.

Episode 1 of House Of Fools attracted a strong 1.27 million viewers to BBC Two, however by Episode 6 the ratings had fallen to 0.76 million. This prompted speculation that the show had been axed, leading to a Twitter campaign to save the show which was supported by the likes of Stephen Fry. However, insiders have told Radio Times that "such was the level of support for the show within the BBC, a recommission was never really in doubt."

Meanwhile a number of the cast are involved in the new iPlayer comedy pilots, a series of shows for the BBC's on-demand video service which are also being made by Vic & Bob's Pett Productions.

Bob Mortimer has teamed up with Frankie Boyle to present a comic cooking show; Morgana Robinson has created a fast-paced sketch show called Channel Morgana; and Matt Berry - who is also currently working on another series of his Channel 4 sitcom Toast Of London, will star in a pilot called Lone Wolf.

Series 2 of House Of Fools is expected to be shown on BBC Two in early 2015.
