Big School will return to BBC One for a second series, it has been revealed.

Speaking at a BAFTA event earlier today, channel controller Charlotte Moore announced that the bleakly-comic, single-camera comedy series has been recommissioned.

The series was created, co-written by and stars David Walliams as chemistry teacher Mr Church, with Catherine Tate as new French teacher Miss Postern.

The first series saw Church about to issue school headmistress Frances De La Tour his resignation, before meeting and instantly falling for the new female member of staff. However, also vying for her affections is lecherous sports teacher Mr Gunn (Philip Glenister).

Alongside Walliams, the series is penned by writing team The Dawson Brothers - a trio comprising of Andrew Dawson, Steve Dawson and friend Tim Inman.

Further details have not yet been revealed, but it is expected that all of the key cast members will return for the second series, and that it is likely to be on screen in the second half of 2014.

In the following video clip from Series 1, Church and Gunn compete to help Miss Postern train for a charity race.
