Further details
It's official! Walter has ruined Lily (Eli congratulates Walter at this point). It turns out that they are not actually man and wife. The vicar that allegedly married them wasn't a real vicar, as Nellie puts it so well: "That pastor? He was an impostor?"
Nellie's aim is to get both Lily and Walter legally married and Eli is to look after Walter whilst she organises it. Eli of course takes Walter out on his bachelor night and they are soon chatting up the women and supping more than their fair share of pints. Staggering home later, Walter has a cigar clenched between teeth and lipstick marks on his head!
However, all is well the next day as they are both officially wed. As Walter has been saving himself for twenty four years, they're all sure he can't wait to get Lily "Up Them Stairs"!
Notes
This series was filmed in colour, but ITV was still only broadcasting in black and white at the time of its first transmission.
