George & Mildred trivia

All 10 episodes of the first series were the top-rating programmes in their timeslot, attracting around 20 million viewers.

For Series 2-4, every episode was in the top 3 watched; even repeats were all within the top 5.

A sixth series was due to be made. Scripts were completed and delivered to the cast, but Yootha Joyce (Mildred) was too ill to read them, having hidden the extent of her alcoholism, and died of liver failure in August 1980.

The local Residents' Association committee - as featured in Series 1 episode 6 (Where My Caravan Has Rested) - is comprised of a Mr and Mrs Morecombe [sic], and a Miss Wise.
