Graham Coxon had to perform without an audience in the studio after it was found that by allowing live music to be performed at Television Centre [the home of the BBC], the BBC was in breach of the 2003 Licensing Act, which became law in 2004.
Television studios need to be licensed if the public is admitted to events featuring live music.
The BBC is now in the process of obtaining the appropriate licence that will allow music to be performed at Television Centre.
