When a Bible-bashing American film producer shows interest in Patrick's latest novel, he tries to persuade his ex-wife to pretend that they are still married. When she refuses Patrick has to look for an alternative and ends up with more than he expected.

2. One Dog And His Man

Tuesday 19^th May 1970

Patrick has problems with H.G. Wells, his beloved dog, when he eats page 90 of his latest novel. He takes drastic action and ships H.G. off to the country to act as a guard dog - the girls decide to go on hunger strike as a protest.

3. It's Never Too Late

It appears that Karen has never been Christened and Patrick's mother is keen to see it happen before she "goes". Patrick's visit to the vicar with his ex-wife, Barbara, leads to a mix-up, and a wedding rather than a Christening is arranged.

4. Nobody's Indispensable

Tuesday 2^nd June 1970

Mr Bolton, the Verger, proposes to Nanny, but she turns him down because of her commitment to the Glover family. Patrick and the girls feel guilty and try to prove to Nanny that they can survive without her - even if they would miss her.

5. The Suitable Suitor

Patrick is conducting a book signing and believes he has found a suitable young man for Anna. He invites Matthew round to meet her, but his mother comes along as well, believing she is the real reason for the invite.

6. A Man About The House

Tuesday 16^th June 1970

Anna and Karen's plans to sneak Lesley, an artist friend, into the house are scuppered when Patrick returns early from a skiing holiday. While Lesley's real identity is still a secret, Patrick mistakes the name for that of a woman and approves of the girls' grand gesture.
