Based on ratings and overseas sales Desmond's has remained Channel 4's most successful sitcom for more than 20 years since it started. It is particularly popular in America and Africa.

The highest viewing figure that the series achieved was for an episode in Series 2; 5.2 million people watched.

Norman Beaton and Carmen Munroe also appeared together in Britain's first 'black sitcom', The Fosters, in the late 1970s.

Gyearbuor Asante was credited as Christopher Asante in the first series.
