Dave Lamb is 'The Narrator' in the new series of Danger Mouse...

How did you react when you found out you had got the role?

I couldn't believe it when I found out I was actually going to be in Danger Mouse! It was just fabulous, because I watched it as a kid - I think everyone my age, in my generation, watched it. It was just such a fabulous show.

What made you decide to take the role?

Well, I had to take the role because it was Danger Mouse! When you get offered something as iconic as that, you have to say yes. I've also got a six year-old, so I started doing kids' television because of her as it's something she can watch and enjoy. When the chance came along to be a part of Danger Mouse, I grabbed it.

Is children's TV something you particularly enjoy doing?

I do, yeah. I feel like I can relate very well to children because of my daughter - it certainly feels like a great thing to be doing at the moment and I'm really enjoying it.

Is it nice for you that she can watch you?

She really enjoys watching me although, with the Horrible Histories Gory Games I present, she much prefers the Horrible Histories sketch show that I'm not in. She'll quite often say 'Daddy, can we watch the Horrible Histories without Daddy in it?' It's a little bit heartbreaking but they are very honest, children. Very honest indeed!

How do you find the voices for the characters that you play? Is there a lot of experimentation involved?

Not really. It's pretty clear from the way that it's written how it has to be. And the writers and director are very clear in what they want, so it's not been too difficult for me to find the voice. I'm very good at taking direction, so if somebody wants something I will move my performance around to what they want.

Do you normally record the episodes when there are several people in the booths? How do you find that?

There are two ways of recording the episodes - we either do it ensemble where there are four of us in at one time, bouncing off each other, giving the full performance and hearing the feed lines, and all that, which works really nicely. But, because it's difficult to schedule with everyone so busy with other things, you occasionally have to go in and plough your own lonely farrow and work your way through the script just doing your own bits. That's nowhere near as much fun, but it is a lot quicker because there's less chatting and more work gets done.

I much prefer the ensemble because you get to hang out with everyone and it's a much more fun day.

Are you elbowing each other out of the way for the limelight? Or is it more of a team effort?

It's alright because we've all got our own mics so there's no pressure on space. I've done things before where you're performing to one central mic - then the elbows get very sharp and a lot of barging out the way goes on - a lot of dead arms. But with this it's fine - we've all got our own mic. It's nice because when I'm narrating Come Dine With Me, I'm very much on my own in a darkened room and I've been doing it for 10 years. So I've spent a lot of my time in what is effectively a padded cell, shouting at people's scallops. That's not good for a human being to do, so it's beautiful being able to work with other people.

Is there a particular favourite moment from the episodes you've filmed already? Or a favourite line that you've really enjoyed?

Nothing jumps out as a favourite moment or a favourite line but I really do enjoy Kevin's performance as Penfold. Xander as Danger Mouse - he almost is Danger Mouse - it's a brilliant performance. Kevin as Penfold is so sweet, and that high pitched voice - almost everything he says, I enjoy. So there's not one stand out moment for me, it's just been a part of the whole thing really.
