Sitcom Mission

Arthouse

By: Graeme Knowles

Sitcom Mission 2010 finalist

Charles Chetwynd is in his ideal job. As manager of a gallery he can indulge his major passion: art - or at least the ability to swan about and look down his nose at the hapless members of the public who wander ill-advisedly through the doors of Arthouse. The gallery is a playground for his staff: Dave the streetwise prankster with an eye for the main chance, Ben the idiot not-so-savant and the gallery's acerbic announcer, marshalled by the redoubtable, if slightly flaky Sonia.

But the idyll has been interrupted by the acquisition of the gallery by the aggressively populist Artco Corporation. Terrorised by the formidable Bob Sharp, Charles and his hapless crew struggle to re-adjust to this brave new, customer-centric, revenue optimising world...

Graeme Knowles

In The Sitcom Trails Grand Final in May 2009 the reviewer said of Graeme Knowles' Trainspotting that, "it's not hard to see how the hyper-reality and gaggy writing could be honed into a cult favourite." As a qualified engineer Graeme set to work machining the surface of the script by scrubbing an abrasive stone against it. After only a few minutes Graeme had quite a large a pile of shredded paper. A quick check on Wikipedia revealed that 'shredded paper' is not an acceptable definition of 'cult classic'. Graeme has since become disillusioned with the review process.
