Sitcom Mission

Also-Rans

By: Declan Taaffe & Chris Jeal

Sitcom Mission 2012 finalist

Three friends brought together by fate, poor career choices and general laziness are wading through another day in the site office over-looking the construction of high priced apartments.

It's the afternoon; therefore work is unofficially finished on the building site, so Toby wanders into the site office to procrastinate the day away. Inside Kev has been presented with the opportunity of a lifetime: Amanda his co-worker - the woman he would do anything for - has been dumped by her boyfriend. Unfortunately he's not alone in his affection for her, Craig, the boss and all round git, is already on her like a slimy blanket, and he isn't burdened by having a conscience.

To complicate Kev's predicament, Andy turns up very late with a list his girlfriend has made - a typed list of his most intimate flaws she'd like him to change.

Before pub o'clock we'll find out if Andy can get over his girlfriend, whether Toby can avoid going back to work, and if Kevin can get Amanda to go on a date with him, or if Craig will console the pants off her first.

Declan Taaffe & Chris Jeal

Declan Taaffe has been working in the film industry for a few years. He co-founded a production company, BlurredRed. He directs and produces short films and corporate work in the UK and Europe. A two minute short he wrote and directed was picked up by Virgin and played in a couple of hundred UK cinemas in front of the main feature for a year. He has several projects in production including a feature film scheduled to shoot soon.

Chris Jeal was born and raised on the mean streets of South London. He showed a talent for creative writing at a very young age when he spray painted the words 'Hammer Time' across the front of the local youth club (many say it's his best work to date).

He once took home the prestigious Bromley Golden Cup award for outstanding achievements in creative writing. Unfortunately he hadn't anticipated the extensive CCTV coverage and was promptly made to return it. He currently has a script for a TV sketch comedy show completed and is looking to produce it this year.

Chris and Declan met in the pub and bonded over a hatred of everything. They decided it was time to throw everything at filmmaking so they raised £10,000 and made a 20-minute film, Darren H Christ. It is about a man who, after a bad break up, decides he is the Messiah and is currently cracking up/offending people right through the post production chain.

They followed this up with Also-Rans, a sitcom script about a bunch of losers working in a building site office. The writers spent more than enough time working on construction sites in the London (if you'd like to see two grown men come to blows over whether "the ginger one in Girls Aloud is fit" that's the place to go) and wanted to put these wasted years to good use.
