Sitcom Mission

2011 Long List

Monday 14th March 2011

So here is the list everyone has been waiting for... the long list of 32 scripts which we'd like to take to the next stage.

As you probably know, we had over 1200 entries this year, which made our selection process incredibly difficult. For every successful entry at this stage, we had to reject 40 other scripts. We had an initial cutdown of over 200 which we would have liked to have seen more of, but in the end we had to long list only 32. The overall standard this year was incredibly high, and we'd like to thank and congratulate everyone who entered for the time they've taken and the huge amount of work they've put in.

If you're not on the list, we're sorry to say that you haven't been successful this time. We hope very much that you'll enter again next year. Our last blog on the beast of rejection may be of interest. Having the guts to take up arms and go on the journey, and keep going, is the main thing. Nobody achieved anything by giving up.

If your script is one of those listed above, we'd like to congratulate you for getting into the top 32. We look forward to receiving two more 15-minute episodes by 23.59 on Thursday April 14. Please email them to entry@sitcommission.com

Once we've had a rest, we'll be blogging some more thoughts on the scripts we received and the trends we've spotted. We'll be blogging weekly so do keep our website bookmarked.

For anyone who's interested, we run an Introduction to Sitcom Writing workshop, details of which are here. And if you'd like feedback on your script, we'll be running our Help! I've Written A Script workshop later in the year.
