The League Of Gentlemen have reunited - to commemorate their cult television series with a new box set, and to tease another live revival.

Twenty-five years after the show first aired on BBC Two, the quartet gathered last month to record new audio commentaries for the Blu-ray release of The League Of Gentlemen - The Complete Collection on 9th June, which repackages all three television series, the Christmas special and anniversary specials for the first time together in HD, along with new features.

Reece Shearsmith, Steve Pemberton, Mark Gatiss and Jeremy Dyson, who formed the troupe in 1995, won the Perrier Award in 1997 and recorded their Radio 4 series On The Town With The League Of Gentlemen the same year, moved to television two years later. The film The League Of Gentlemen's Apocalypse hit cinemas in 2005.

The group last assembled together professionally in 2018 for their 48-date arena tour The League Of Gentlemen Live Again!, which subsequently aired on BBC Two as a special.

Speaking to BBC Radio Wales last month, Dyson disclosed that the recording of the audio commentaries had just taken place and "always, the subject [of a reunion] comes up. So it's never far from any of our minds ... [though there's] nothing solid [yet]."

And Pemberton, speaking to The Times on Saturday to promote his and Shearsmith's stage adaptation of Inside No. 9, revealed: "I'd like to do another tour of The League Of Gentlemen. What we're doing here feels like theatre, but they feel more like gigs."

Shearsmith added: "It's not news to me. No, he says it every day."

To which Pemberton told his writing partner: "Well, listen, you definitely would do it. I would do it. We just need to work on Mark."

Alongside the new audio commentaries and an "anniversary featurette", the six-disc Blu-ray also includes outtakes and deleted scenes; a 2002 radio interview of the group by producer Paul Jackson from his In Conversation With Radio 4 series; an interview with the series' composer Joby Talbot, plus the 1995 short Highgate House Of Horror, a precursor to the television series comprising three stories, featuring usually off-screen member Dyson in an acting role, shot in Pemberton and Shearsmith's flatshare of the time.

"The League Of Gentlemen was originally shot on an interlaced video format," a BBC Studios spokesperson told British Comedy Guide about the process to make the Blu-ray release look like the series was shot on film.

"Once edited, the final cut of each episode was filmised, using a system which discarded half of the picture information, leaving behind aliasing artefacts.

"Fortunately, the original interlaced edited versions, which don't feature these problems, survive for the first three episodes of Series 1. These were filmised anew and upscaled using a modern scaler. A new film grain was added and then re-graded to match the original transmission masters.

"Only minor improvements have been made to all of the other episodes; some, such as the Christmas Special appear to have been treated to a different and more sympathetic filmising method than the first series.

"All of the previously luminance keyed on-screen graphics have been replaced with new true high-definition versions, for example the BBC logo, episode titles and credits."
