Adam Hills is writing his first children's book, inspired by the aspirations of his daughter.
The Last Leg host revealed the publishing deal ahead of his Channel 4 show returning tomorrow night, with a 90-minute special.
"I'm writing a second draft of a children's book at the moment" he told Lorraine Kelly on her ITV breakfast show. Asked if he had any ideas by his publishers, "in the meeting I said, 'let me go home and think about that'.
"I went home to my daughter, my 10-year-old, and went 'what do you want to be when you grow up?' And she said 'I want to be a rock star and detective.' And I went 'Great! I'm going to write a book about a rock star detective!'"
Back in the UK to record The Last Leg, having previously appeared remotely from Melbourne, Hills added "She is my editor at the moment. Every time I write a chapter, I send it to my daughter and go 'what do you think?' 'I don't know about this Daddy, I think it should be more like this ...' I want her to illustrate it as well."
The book's title, publisher and publication date have yet to emerge. The Australian comic published his first book, the memoir [st=5780]Best Foot Forward[/s]t, in 2018, with Hodder & Stoughton.
Hills also told Kelly, who stood in for him as presenter of the show last month, that The Last Leg's team would be hastily re-writing today in light of political events in the US.
"A lot of it is written kind of last-minute because it has to be", he said. "We planned out a show yesterday for what we thought would happen tomorrow night.
"But since then Donald Trump has been impeached again. It's going to have to be re-written again today but that's pretty much the way the show goes and that's what makes it fun."
Adam Hills is one the UK's best-loved comedians. For thirty years he has been performing stand-up, hosting TV shows and winning the hearts of a nation.
Taking us from the early days of the Sydney stand-up scene to hosting his own radio show, touring the world and eventually landing on British TV, Best Foot Forward is a story of a life in comedy. Along the way Adam shares some childhood tales, a few backstage blunders and encounters some fairly famous faces - the likes of Whoopi Goldberg, Billy Connolly, and that guy who sang The Macarena. Yes, him.
This is an utterly hilarious and honest collection of stories about Adam's ups and downs in the world of comedy. It's a lesson in following your heart, being positive and discovering that what makes you different also makes you unique.
It looks like you're in the US? Fear not! Almost everything can still be ordered. Amazon UK deliver internationally, Amazon.com carries many items separately, or you can look out for US/Canadian flags on our product listings for direct links.
If ordering from a UK store, please note that you are in Region 1 (DVD)/Region A (Blu-ray), whilst the UK is in Region 2/B, respectively. This means that many - but by no means all - may fail to play. Look for products marked "Region free", "All regions", "Region 0" or "Multi-region". Blu-rays may also be marked "Region A/B/C", "Region free", or variations thereof. You may also check whether your DVD/Blu-ray player supports multi-region playback (also referred to as "region free"), or whether it can be set to do so. There should, of course, be no problems with books, CDs, or other physical items.
