  • New book Ellie Taylor - My Child and Other Mistakes will be published in July 2021
  • The comedian, who recently had a baby, will write about "motherhood and all its grisly delights"
  • "Becoming a mother has been the most transformational, brilliant, horrendously awful thing I have ever done"

Ellie Taylor is writing My Child and Other Mistakes, a book that will share The Mash Report star's "honest, hilarious and moving" account of becoming a mother.

Due to be published in July 2021, the book is sub-titled "How to ruin your life in the best way possible".

The blurb says: "My Child and Other Mistakes is the honest lowdown on motherhood and all its grisly delights, asking the questions no one wants to admit to asking themselves - do I want a child? Do I have a favourite? Do I wish I hadn't had one and spent the money on a kitchen island instead?

"Stand-up comic, broadcaster and actress Ellie Taylor is relatable, clever and interested in how women can have it all. Her honest, hilarious and moving account of the whys and hows of having a baby makes perfect reading for expectant mothers and fathers everywhere, as well as those who've been there, done that, and wonder how on earth they did.

"In this very funny book she writes candidly about her own personal experience exploring the decision to have a baby when she doesn't even like them, the importance of cheese during pregnancy, why she took hair straighteners to the labour ward, plus the apocalyptic newborn days, childcare, work and the inevitable impact on life and love and most importantly, her breasts."

Myfanwy Moore from publishers Hodder Studio told The Bookseller: "I'm delighted to be working with the funny and never knowingly maternal Ellie Taylor on her first book, which is a wickedly honest and hilarious look at being at the frontline of early parenthood."

The comedian comments: "I am thrilled Hodder Studio are letting me write a book about my two specialist subjects - me and my heir. Becoming a mother has been the most transformational, brilliant, horrendously awful thing I have ever done and I feel incredibly passionate about sharing honest accounts of pregnancy, birth and life with a ratbag child. Now at least, when I walk past a pregnant woman I can just hand her this book rather than my standard reaction - embracing her tightly as I whisper in her ear. 'You've ruined your life, but in the best possible way'."

My Child and Other Mistakes is available to pre-order now.
