The Real McCoy finally available to buy

  • 1990s sketch show The Real McCoy Series 1 is now available to buy from BBC Store
  • The landmark comedy series, which ran between 1991 and 1996, starred black and Asian comic talent
  • Series 1 is available to download from today, the first time the show has been commercially released

A landmark comedy series of the 1990s, sketch show The Real McCoy, is now available to buy for the first time, having made its debut today on BBC Store.

The first of the comedy's five series, written by and starring black and Asian comedy talent, is available to download through the platform from today.

Llewella Gideon, Curtis Walker, Ishmael Thomas and Collette Johnson lead the series cast, whilst other participants include Meera Syal, Eddie Nestor and Robbie Gee. In later series, Felix Dexter and Kulvinder Ghir also feature.

The series has been published today as part of the service's Race Through The Decades Collection, a "look at six decades of drama and comedy that has reflected a changing Britain. Charting the rising voices of the country's Black and Asian communities, it tells the story of Britain's journey towards a multicultural society."

The Real McCoy Series 1 is the only new comedy offering in the collection, which primarily comprises of dramas, the earliest of which dates to 1965.
