Miranda Hart is to become a children's author.

It has been a long-term ambition of the comedy star to write a book for children, and it has now been revealed that she has signed a deal with publishers Hachette to write three books.

The first, published in October, will be titled The Girl With The Lost Smile. Aimed at the 8 to 12-year-old market, it tells the story of Chloe, a girl "with a big imagination and an even bigger heart."

The book will follow Chloe after she wakes up and discovers she's lost her smile. With the help of "some very unusual friends and mystical creatures", Chloe embarks on an "extraordinary, otherworldly adventure to find her smile."

Hart has already written the book. She says: "I still remember the vivid images from the magical worlds of my favourite authors when I was younger - and I am excited that I might be able to do the same here. I hope it feels as fantastical and exciting to read for young people as it did for me to write. I got rather involved in all the adventures even though I was writing them!"

Publisher Hannah Black says the comedy star "understands what enthrals and engages children", adding "she brings her rich and boundless imagination to Chloe's world, along with all her hilarity and sensitivity, with truly magical results."

This will not be Hart's first book, she has previously written Is It Just Me? (2012) and the dog-focussed Peggy & Me (2016). More recently she has worked on 'Such Fun!', a book for Comic Relief which is in shops from Thursday.

Hart owns a TV production company with David Walliams, who is now one of the most successful authors in Britain. King Bert has recently worked on So Sammy, a short series written by Hart about a teenager vlogger.

It's a busy time for the comedian, as she is also rehearsing to play Miss Hannigan in the new West End version of Annie.

The Girl With The Lost Smile will be published on the 5th October 2017 with a recommended retail price of £12.99.
