  • He says: "I've decided it's time to tell my story"
  • Little Me: The A-Z Of Matt Lucas will be released in book and audiobook format in November 2017

Matt Lucas is writing his memoirs.

The book, titled Little Me: The A-Z Of Matt Lucas, is expected to be ready for autumn 2017.

The comedy star says: "From my youth to Shooting Stars, Little Britain, Doctor Who and beyond, I've decided it's time to tell my story."

Jenny Todd from publishers Canongate comments: "Matt Lucas has an authentic and moving story to tell and is a gifted, funny, serious and truly original writer. We are enormously proud to be working with Matt and are confident that this is going to be one of the biggest books to be published in 2017."

Lucas's Little Britain co-star David Walliams is already a best-selling author, and revealed on Tuesday that his children's book, in shops this November, will be titled The Midnight Gang.

Matt Lucas has an interesting life story to tell. He lost all of his hair when he was six, due to alopecia, and turned to comedy as a coping mechanism. Whilst studying at the University of Bristol he joined the National Youth Theatre and it was there he met his future Little Britain co-creator David Walliams.

Lucas started performing on the comedy circuit in the early 1990s, often as the elderly character Sir Bernard Chumley, before getting his big break as scorer George Dawes in Shooting Stars in 1995. Little Britain launched on Radio 4 in 2000, before becoming a TV series in 2003. The TV version of the sketch show soon became a cultural phenomenon and, on its move to BBC One in 2005, was watched by over 9 million viewers.

His most recent TV series are panel show The Matt Lucas Awards and slapstick comedy Pompidou.

Lucas is now set to become a regular character in Doctor Who, when he reprises his role of Nardole for the 2017 series.

Little Me: The A-Z Of Matt Lucas is expected to be published in hardback format in November 2017, and Lucas will also record an audiobook version to be released at the same time.

Matt Lucas - Little Me: My Life From A-Z

Hello there. Welcome to the dust jacket of my autobiography. I see they've made my teeth whiter in the photo, so that's good.

Throughout this book I talk about my life and work, including Little Britain, Come Fly With Me, Bridesmaids, Les Miserables, Alice In Wonderland and, of course, Shooting Stars.

The thing is, this is a bit different to most memoirs you may have read, because it comes in the form of an A-Z.

For instance, B is for Baldy! - which is what people used to shout at me in the playground (not much fun), G is for Gay (because I'm an actual real life gay) and T is for the TARDIS (because I'm a companion in Doctor Who now). You get the sort of thing.

Anyway I hope you buy it at least twice. Thank you.

Not in the UK?

Fear not! Many items can still be ordered. Amazon in the UK delivers to many international territories, whilst their Australia, USA and Canada stores also supply many equivalent or imported items.

If you are in the North America, look out for US/Canadian flag icons on popular product listings for direct links.

If you order from a UK store, please note that the UK is in Region 2 and B, respectively, for DVDs and Blu-rays - check your player's compatibility, or look for multi-region products if you are located in another region.

If you are in Australia or New Zealand (DVD Region 4), note that almost all DVDs distributed in the UK by the BBC and 2entertain are encoded for both Region 2 and Region 4. The UK and Australasia are in the same Blu-ray region (B).
