A new fitness DVD starring Miranda Hart has been announced.

Miranda Hart's Maracattack is described as "an authentic fitness routine but one that is wholly unique, and skilfully combines exercise and comedy".

Released by BBC Worldwide, the DVD will feature workouts as well as sketches starring the cast of Hart's hit sitcom, Miranda. The product, which will also be available to download in digital format, is set to be released in November.

The comedy star says: "Maracattack is based on one key concept. Fun. For fitness should be fun. Bear with as I coin a compound word - Funness. You will want to exercise. It's about playing, not 'working out' and play helps your body, but also frees your mind. Without giving too much away, it involves maracas, classic pop tunes, and is as much fun as a riotous camp, cheesy disco. There is no need to dread the gym anymore."

Miranda's co-host is fitness expert Amelia Watts. The DVD includes a warm-up, 20-minute cardio session, a 5-minute high intensity cardio routine and 10-minute strength exercises for arms, core, legs and bums. During each workout Miranda and Amelia work at different levels, so viewers can follow either depending on their own ability. Hart's fellow sitcom stars Sarah Hadland and Tom Ellis also join her for some of the workouts, which are conducted to music from the likes of Kylie, Take That and The Monkees.

Inbetween the fitness programmes, the DVD also presents brand new sketches featuring Miranda stars Patricia Hodge, Sarah Hadland and Tom Ellis. There is also a guest appearance from property presenter Kirstie Allsopp.

The BBC says: "With Maracattack, Miranda has created a great comedy DVD as well as a new exercise concept that is perfect for those new to fitness or for those with more experience. It's the new craze waiting to happen."

Miranda Hart's Maracattack will be released on 18th November 2013, with a recommended retail price of £19.99. Pre-orders are now being taken

A fourth series of Miranda is expected, however not for a while as the star is first due to embark on an arena stand-up tour in 2014.
