Monty Python get first 4K Blu-ray film release

The first Monty Python feature film to be released in 4K will be Monty Python's The Meaning Of Life, it has been announced.

The final of four feature films from the renowned comedy troupe, it will be released on 4K UHD Blu-ray in September by Universal Pictures, and is currently available to pre-order for £20.

At four times the resolution of the high definition pictures available on broadcast television or regular Blu-ray releases, the UHD format offers a premium viewing experience. For those wishing to invest in the higher quality video and audio for future but currently without the necessary hardware to do so, a normal Blu-ray will also be included, making the release a double-disc set.

Whilst 1983's Monty Python's The Meaning Of Life is the least celebrated of the four Python films, their first big-screen outing, the sketch compilation feature And Now For Something Completely Different[/y] (1971) has yet to progress to a physical release beyond standard definition DVD.

Running to 107 minutes the 4K release of Monty Python's The Meaning Of Life will also come packed with an array of extras, including commentary on the film from directors Terry Gilliam and Terry Jones; footage from a 30th anniversary reunion event; cut scenes; making of feature; and Un film de Jon Cleese.

Alongside Graham Chapman, John Cleese, Terry Gilliam, Eric Idle, Terry Jones and Michael Palin in a variety of roles, the cast also includes Carol Cleveland, Simon Jones and Judy Loe.
