Eddie Izzard to write autobiography in 2015

Eddie Izzard

Eddie Izzard has signed a book deal to write his memoirs.

The actor and comedian will work with US publishing house Blue Rider Press on the autobiography, which is due out in time for Christmas 2015.

The currently untitled book will cover Izzard's life from childhood to his comedy tours and acting roles, including the American TV series The Riches and the movies Ocean's Twelve and Ocean's Thirteen.

There is no news yet on a British publisher for the book, but it is expected to appear in UK shops in the winter of 2015.

This will be Izzard's second book. Dress To Kill, published in 2000, was written with David Quantick and Steve Double. It reflected on his birth in Yemen and his childhood in Northern Ireland, Wales and London, and discussed the trials and tribulations of being a cross-dressing surrealist comedian "intent on making it in America".

Izzard has announced he plans to run for London mayor in 2020. If elected, it will see him leave comedy behind for a career in politics.

The comedian continues to tour the world with his Force Majeure show, with dates in Australia and New Zealand in January and February 2015. Force Majeure is the most extensive comedy tour ever. Launched in March 2013, once completed it will have involved more than 25 countries on 5 continents.

It was also announced today that on his return from Australasia, Izzard will headline a benefit night for the charity Shelter at the Hammersmith Apollo in London on 25th February, with the bill also including Josh Widdicombe, Rob Beckett and Sara Pascoe. Speaking about the gig, he says: "It's great to be doing a gig for Shelter, who are a lifeline for people battling to keep a roof over their heads. With demand for their services increasing every day, Shelter needs as much support as possible to make sure no-one has to fight bad housing or homelessness on their own. So please buy a ticket, have a laugh, and support a great charity at the same time."

Tickets are on sale at shelter.org.uk
