The locations for the sixth series of Mark Steel's In Town have been announced, British Comedy Guide can exclusively reveal.

Series 6 will be recorded in Melton Mowbray in Leicestershire, Fleetwood in Lancashire, Shrewsbury in Shropshire, Barnard Castle in County Durham, Paisley in Renfrewshire, and Saint Anne, capital of Alderney in the Channel Islands.

The series sees Steel travelling to some of the UK's lesser-known towns to perform a tailor-made stand-up show for an audience of locals.

With each episode recorded in a different town, the series sees Steel writing and performing almost six full half hours of brand new material, in contrast to the regular stand-up circuit where many comics will develop and perform a single hour worth of material for a whole year.

Mark Steel's In Town has been commended by various bodies in the past, winning both Gold and Silver Sony Radio Awards; a Writers' Guild of Great Britain Award; and a Comedy.co.uk Award.

The series will be produced by Carl Cooper and broadcast by Radio 4 later in the year.
