How far in the past Newfangle is set is disputed. The BBC web page for the show said it takes place in 100,000 B.C., while an earlier BBC Press Office statement said the show took place "hundreds of thousands of years ago". Meanwhile the entry for the show on the Above the Title website claims it is set 2 million years ago.
Writer Adam Rosenthal and Maureen Lipman, the voice of Coco, are mother and son in real life.
