Having been made redundant from her law job in the city, Kate - played by Olivia Hallinan (Lark Rise To Candleford, Sugar Rush) - decides to make a fresh start and move in with her old school friend Sam (a militant eco-warrior who describes children as "sex accidents").

On top of that, the only other drawbacks are that the house is a barge, they don't have any money, and the next door neighbour, Jim, is a self-styled river wizard with a penchant for home-brewed gin. Nevertheless, Kate is determined to make the best of things and throws herself wholeheartedly into a new world of guerilla gardening and dumpster-diving.
