Lionel Nimrod (Tom Baker), famed for his role as Mackay the Morloi in the cult 1960s sci-fi series Star Ark, narrates this "documentary" series examining parts of the universe that we have yet to fully explain, such as the mind, death, and the unexplained itself.

While Nimrod may be the narrator, most of the actual content of the show is presented by Stewart Lee and Richard Herring performing sketches and other comic routines around each week's theme.
