It Sticks Out Half A Mile trivia

In this series, Hodges' first name is 'Bert', whereas in Dad's Army, his first name was 'Bill' (short for 'William').

This show is rare in that it had two pilots. The first, in 1981 featured Arthur Lowe returning as Mainwaring, but he was not well during the recording and can be heard sluring his lines so badly it sounds as if he is drunk. The second was made in 1982, after Lowe's death, and was broadcast as the first episode of the series proper.

One of the early suggestions for a proposed Dad's Army sequel was to have the characters doing peacetime activities as members of the Walmington-on-Sea Town Council. This plan was later rejected.
