Born in 69, i grew up on real comedy, something that today's generation is not fortunate enough to have witnessed, unless they've come across it via youtube videos, and it's not just the comedy itself, as it's more to do with the broad spectrum that has been on offer over the years.
.
Some mother's do 'ave em... Tiswas... Anything you care to mention from Croft and Perry... Moving into the 80's, Not the 9 o'clock news, A kick up the 80's with Richard Stillgoe, Keving Turvey and Shadwell... Spike Milligan and his Q series... The young ones... The emergence of alternative comedy, like the comic strip, which due to re-runs is now dated for today's generation with lots of it "not being got". The 90's bought me Armando Ianucci, which lead to The day today, The mary whitehouse experience, newman and baddiel (that's you that is!)... even the double 0's had something on offer like Ali G and Gervais (ias?), with mr merchant.
.
And it didn't stop at comedy comedy, as tv shows in general had a wealth of entertainment built in. Where is today's Minder or Rising Damp... Who is today's Les Dawson? or Kenny Everett?
.
New faces and opportunity knocks were flash in the pan shows that had their day and then left quietly to make way for something more refreshing, they served a purpose as we wouldn't have Lenny Henry as an example, but... Simon Cowell is making this country brain dead by flogging a dead horse, and the BBC's answer? crack open the coffin lid and put the word strictly in front of it.
.
Come Dancing was sh*t, it was awful, wanna get kids to bed in the 70's, put come dancing on tv every night, there was only 3 channels so the option made itself, and when come dancing left our screens, it left for a reason... nobody was watching it.
.
Where is today's old grey whistle test? or Saturday night live?
.
Most people in todays society earn less than 20 grand a year, so why is it that morning tv shows are all about buying and fixing up houses? i mean with the average London house valued at over 250 grand, these shows are not for the masses.
.
There are so many things out there crying and begging to have the living sh*t ripped out of them, yet nobody does it... why?
.
I'm not Jerry Springer, so take care of yourselves.... Aaaaaaaaaand your mothers.
