Sitcom Mission 2025. Sal Fulcher

Sal Fulcher has won the Sitcom Mission 2025 writing competition with her script Therapists.

Sitcom Mission, which takes in 15 minute scripts, has run since 2010. This year's contest involved over 200 entries, with the finalists selected via a judging process that was 'blind' of writers' names and details.

The four scripts shortlisted were showcased with a team of actors in front of an industry audience at the Museum Of Comedy yesterday (25th June), and - following that - the judges picked Therapists as the winner.

Fulcher's script is described as "a comic peak behind the scenes of what psychotherapists are actually thinking inside and outside of sessions (you'll probably never want to see a therapist again)." The full synopsis can be read on the competition's website.

Fulcher is a writer and psychotherapist. After studying her craft with an MA in Screenwriting at Leeds Met Uni in 2007 she went on to be a storyliner for Hollyoaks. She was then selected to develop her teen TV series Eurorail through the Screen Yorkshire Spark scheme and Eon Productions commissioned a first draft of her screenplay Ava in 2008. She then took a break from the industry to train as a therapist and set up her psychotherapy practise, before returning to writing in 2020 with her first full length play A Westminster Story.

Competition producer Lawrence Russell says: "Each of Sal's characters were unique with clear and hilariously skewed ways of thinking. There was also a distinct plot, which escalated as the story went on and it felt like, in this episode, we were joining a group that was already established. This perfectly hit so many elements that we look for in a winner and, like the other three finalists, it did really well in front of our live audiences. Great work!"
