Charlie Hyland joins Channel 4 as digital comedy commissioner

Channel 4 has hired producer Charlie Hyland as their new digital commissioner focused on comedy.

The network says: "When he joins Channel 4 in this new role, Hyland will have a remit to commission and deliver a slate of digital-first comedy and entertainment content, targeting new and wider audiences from niche to mainstream, and working with suppliers to create distinctive comedy suitable for all social platforms."

Hyland has also worked as a producer and development producer, most recently as series producer on E4 shows Pete and Sam's Reality News and the Married at First Sight UK spin off show, Afters. His previous credits include The Last Leg (Channel 4), The Lateish Show With Mo Gilligan (Channel4), Home Alone With Joel Dommett (ITV), The Big Narstie Show (Channel 4) and Comedy Games Night (Comedy Central).

Sacha Khari, head of digital commissioning at Channel 4 says: "Charlie's awareness of new comedic talent and his vision to drive them forward through amazing formats will be invaluable as we continue to elevate our digital comedy offering. He's editorially brilliant and we're all absolutely elated to bring, his expertise, ambition and humour to the team."

Charlie Hyland comments: "I'm delighted to be joining the Channel 4 family at such an exciting time in its history and I can't wait to continue its legacy in making comedy that not only pushes boundaries, but champions unheard voices and stories.

"As someone who only really wanted to work in TV after watching Channel 4 comedies, joining Sacha's new digital department and being given the chance to bring C4's distinctive comic taste to a new generation is a privilege and an honour. "

Hyland will join Channel 4 in December.
