2Northdown opens 2020 New Act Competition

London venue 2Northdown has launched its 2020 New Act Competition. Heats will start in November 2019.

The competition is open to all types of comedy acts, with sketch, character and alternative acts encouraged to apply.

Contestants will compete in a heat, with the winners of the round progressing through to the finals. There will also be a wild card round for audience favourites the venue thinks deserve another shot.

This will be the second year of the competition. The organisers say: "After the success of last year's competition with the victory of musical genius Katie Pritchard (pictured), we can't wait to see what this year brings!"

Heats will run from 25th November 2019 to 27th January 2020 at the venue in the King's Cross area, with the semi-finals set for the 17th and 24th February 2020, leading up to the Grand Final on 2nd March 2020.

Acts are scored on their writing; performance; star quality; originality and innovation. The comedians ranked highest by both the audience and a panel of industry judges will progress to the next stage.

The winner will win £500, a paid spot on one of 2Northdown's monthly nights The Good Friday Show, and other prizes, including a free hour-long preview at 2Northdown to help them prepare for the Edinburgh Fringe. The runner up will also win a paid spot on The Good Friday Show and a free preview slot.

Applicants must be aged 18 or over, have not been performing regularly for more than 5 years, and not have 'debuted' at the Edinburgh Fringe.

Full criteria and entry instructions can be found on 2northdown.com

Entries close on Monday 11th November 2019.
