Submit your sketch or short film to Writers' Guild Awards

Writers' Guild of Great Britain

If you've published a sketch or short comedy film online since the 1st October 2018, you should enter it into the Writers' Guild Awards 2020.

The Best Online Comedy category looks at scripted comedy productions of 10 minutes or less. Sketches, mini-series, sitcoms and animations are eligible. However, stand-up, wholly improvised shows, trailers, prank shows, audio-only shows or shows that rely on interaction with the general public are not.

Nominations close on 7 October 2019 at 5pm.

To enter, the writers must be British citizens or residents, and your video must have been featured on Chortle, Beyond The Joke or here on British Comedy Guide before the 29th September 2019 (BCG Pro Emerging and Gold members can upload sketches via the My CV section).

To nominate your creation head to writersguild.org.uk

The Writers' Guild Awards particularly focuses on scripts, and as part of the submission process you'll need to upload your script, so have that to hand.

Other prizes in the awards include a radio comedy category and a TV situation comedy category.

This is the third year the Guild has run the Best Online Comedy category.

In 2019, Hannah George and Tasha Dhanraj were the winners, for Where Are You From? The Game, their sketch for BBC Three which starred Natasha Vasandani.

Marek Larwood won the inaugural award in 2018, for his video Showreel for One Word or Less Parts:

Dave Cohen, the co-chair of the Writers' Guild Comedy Committee, says: "We're delighted to be running the Online Comedy Award for a third year. We're excited to see what people have made this year, and to celebrate the best from what is a growing medium. Previous winners were Marek Larwood and Hannah George, so it'll be fascinating to see if we can maintain the record of 100% of all winners coming from the Isle of Wight. The Guild Awards are a great reminder that behind almost every top comedy work is a brilliant script."

The Writers' Guild Awards 2020 will be announced at a ceremony on Monday 13th January, at the Royal College of Physicians in central London.
