NATYS 2018 open for entry

NATYS Finalists

Entry is open for New Acts Of The Year 2018 (The NATYS), the London-based competition for stand-up comedians and stage performers.

The heats will take place in London in January and February 2018. 100 acts will be invited, of which 12 will be selected to attend the final.

The organisers explain: "The NATYS selection process is a series of auditions that look for acts that can, in their own unique way, present a five-minute showcase of a longer comedy piece, which represents a bookable, twenty-minute routine, and displays the act's commitment to original comedy performance.

"12 acts will be selected to take part in the NATYS Top of the Bill season finale, performing to an audience that includes comedy scouts and reviewers; and for the chance to be booked to perform on the New Variety Lives, rural comedy seasons in Buckinghamshire and Oxfordshire and seasonal London shows at Rich Mix and Club Karamel.

"The producers, New Variety Lives, believe that a variety of acts on any given comedy show provides for the most successful entertainment. The format of 'four acts and a compere', which introduces a range of comic ideas, presentation styles, original content and format, makes for the best experience and offers a wide range of audiences a well-rounded variety evening."

The NATYS, which were for many years known as the Hackney Empire New Act Of The Year competition, has been running since 1987. Notable winners include Linda Smith and Stewart Lee. Rahul Kohli was named Top Of The Bill in 2017.

The auditions take place at 7:30pm at Rich Mix in Bethnal Green on Tuesdays from the 16th January. The Top of the Bill season finale will be on Sunday 11th February.
