Old Comedian Of The Year competition announced

Old Comedian Of The Year 2015

The Leicester Square Theatre and the Museum of Comedy are jointly running a comedy competition for 'comics who've been around long enough to know better'.

Old Comedian Of The Year 2015 - which has the marketing strapline 'The Old Ones Are The Best!' - will feature comedians over the age of 35, who has been performing for 5 years or more.

There is a £1000 prize for the winner, with a £500 prize for the runner-up, and £250 reserved for third place.

The competition is run by the same team that organise The Leicester Square Theatre's New Comedian of the Year competition. They say: "Forget cheery optimism and skinny jeans. At last, a competition for comics who've been around long enough to know better. Expect a high standard and a hint of world weary cynicism as 100 not so new acts compete for the title of Old Comedian of the Year.

"The competition is open to anyone over 35 who has been performing for 5 years or more, and not making a living from performing comedy. Entries from character acts, musical acts and sketch groups are welcome. The only restriction is that all contestants must stick to 5 minutes of original material or risk disqualification."

Heats will be held in the Museum Of Comedy's performance space in April, with the final on Sunday 7th June at the Leicester Square Theatre.
