Amused Moose New Comic Award 2020 open for entries

Amused Moose Comedy's National New Comic Award is now open for entries, for its 2020 heats.

This competition, which used to be called the Amused Moose Laugh Off, aims to find future stand-up stars. Previous winners of the competition include Sarah Millican, Jack Whitehall and Rob Beckett, with other finalists including Josh Widdicombe, Romesh Ranganathan, Jimmy Carr, Katherine Ryan, Kevin Bridges and Greg Davies.

The organisers say: "Hundreds of entries from across the UK and Ireland are expected, with newish comedians and comedy performers submitting a clip of themselves performing stand-up or sketches onstage, which will be viewed online and sifted by illustrious comedy industry panellists across the UK and around the world who are eager to start their 2020 talent scouting."

To enter, you need to submit a clip of yourself performing stand-up or sketches onstage. The entry form closes 14th January.

The videos entered will be viewed online and sifted by industry panellists, with the highest scoring 50 invited to perform at live heats on Saturdays and Sundays in February, March and April. Hosted by Mark Dolan and Johnny Cochrane, these will take place at the Amused Moose SohoHo! venue in central London. The final will take place during the Edinburgh Fringe in August.

The organisers say: "Amused Moose Comedy provides a great launch pad because large numbers of comedy industry professionals including agents, managers, promoters, bookers, producers, critics and PRs from around the UK, but also from Australia, Canada and the USA, accept guestlist invitations to quarterfinals and semifinals, as well as the Final. So this competition is an extremely effective and proven way for new comedy talent to get spotted and get their career off to a flying start!

"As well as all the finalists being given the perfect platform from which to launch their comedy career, the winner of the Amused Moose National New Comic title will also receive a shiny moose trophy, with the opportunity to perform as part of Amused Moose Comedy's Award winners Showcases which traditionally takes place in London, to which those comedy scouts and industry who have been unable to see them onstage recently, are invited.
