Ronnie Wolfe, the comedy writer who co-created and co-wrote much of hit 1970s sitcom On The Buses, has died after a fall, aged 89.

Wolfe (pictured, left) passed away earlier today after falling down stairs and hitting his head at a London respite home on Thursday.

One half of 'The Other Two Ronnies' with writing partner Ronald Chesney, Wolfe co-wrote many hours of hit TV and radio comedy. The pair were best known for creating and writing the majority of ITV sitcom On The Buses' 74 episodes plus all 3 smash-hit spin-off films, but also penned series such as The Rag Trade, Meet The Wife, and radio hit Educating Archie.

They also contributed an episode during the long-running fifth series of 'Allo 'Allo!, and wrote other ITV hits including On The Buses spin-off Don't Drink The Water; Romany Jones, and its spin-off, Yus, My Dear.

One of their final series was 1981's Take A Letter Mr. Jones..., an vehicle for John Inman during the height of Are You Being Served?'s popularity.

Mr Chesney told the BBC: "We were together 50 years - it's like losing my brother."

Wolfe is survived by his wife of 58 years, Rose, and two daughters. Mrs Wolfe commented: "It has been a really, really sad last few days and a quite horrendous and totally unexpectedly sad end for a guy who was so funny in life. He was the most incredible husband and we had 58 years of superb marriage harmony."
