Stand-up comedian Seann Walsh will compete in this year's Strictly Come Dancing.

The comic cancelled his run at the Edinburgh Fringe this month, and has today been announced by the BBC as part of this year's line-up for the dancing talent show.

The corporation quips: "He's hilarious, he's got fabulous hair, but is Seann Walsh hiding some smooth moves behind his funny guy façade? It's nearly time to find out!"

Speaking about why he has taken on the challenge of the TV series, Seann says: "It's just something that I and no one I know would expect me to do. Everyone looks like they're having so much fun on it. It makes me laugh every time I imagine doing it."

Walsh kicked off his comedy career at the age of 12 when he performed his first ever stand-up gig. He is known for his regular team captain role on E4 panel show Virtually Famous, and has featured on ITV sitcom Bad Move, starring and written by Jack Dee.

He also previously hosted his own Comedy Central series, Seann Walsh World, and co-starred in sitcom Big Bad World for the same channel.

The other celebrities announced to be appearing in this year's series of Strictly Come Dancing are model Katie Piper, singer Faye Tozer, actor Danny John-Jules, YouTube personality Joe Sugg, radio host Vick Hope, cricketer Graeme Swann, presenter Dr Ranj Singh, TV youth journalist Stacey Dooley, actor and singer Ashley Roberts, and newsreader Kate Silverton.

A launch show in which the celebrities and their professional dance partner-tutors will be teamed up is due to air early in September, with the contest proper beginning later in the month.
