June Whitfield tops Queen's Birthday Honours

June Whitfield has been made a Dame in the Queen's Birthday Honours List.

The annual honours list was published this evening, marking the Queen's official birthday.

Fellow comic actor Julie Walters has also been made a Dame in the 2017 list, whilst stand-up comedian and actor Billy Connolly joins them at the top of the list in being awarded a Knighthood.

David Walliams, meanwhile, has been awarded the OBE for services to charity and the arts, and actor Patricia Hodge also gets an OBE, for services to drama.

Actor Sarah Lancashire has also been awarded the OBE.

Dame June has been honoured at the age of 91. A noted comic actor, she is best known for her long on-screen partnership with Terry Scott, and latter role in 1990s sitcom Absolutely Fabulous.

Julie Walters is perhaps best known for the comedy performing partnership with Victoria Wood, which launched her career. She has recently starred in Paddington, National Treasure, Indian Summers and upcoming sequel Paddington 2.

David Walliams's prolific career covers television comedy, authoring hit childrens' novels, acting, extensive charity work, and appearing as a judge on ITV talent show Britain's Got Talent.
