Since I was a child I think I had an innate sense of having to make people laugh, even if it was just myself.

I spent my late teens and the whole of my twenties convinced I could be a stand-up but it took my four-year old son getting on stage at The Comedy Store in Manchester and bringing the house down that gave me the nudge I needed, at the age of 35. In hindsight, my son was much funnier and has a better stage presence than I could ever have.

I worked a series of jobs before getting into comedy production, doing everything from working at a famous events ticketing company that rhymes with ThicketBlaster to arranging delivery of computers to students with disabilities. In late 2015 a friend and I coughed up £500 of our own money to make a short webseries about a security guard in Chorley, "Barry Pigeon Protects", which caught the attention of the Creative Director for one of the leading independent radio production companies in the country. I had never considered radio as a career choice, having only ever broached it as a topic during a module of a broadcasting course I did at college in 2002.

I started as a researcher at MIM in 2016 and have slowly but surely worked my way up to Deputy Creative Director and Development Director, but I'm also the de facto Head of Comedy. I'm my time as Head of Comedy I have created and produced two series of the BBC Radio 4 series "The Likely Dads", which I used as a backdoor to meet some of my favourite comedians, as well produced the Radio 4 stand-up special "Don Biswas: Neurotopical".

Most recently I have produced the six-part comedy podcast series "What's Wrong With You?", all about the attitudes and taboos about disability in the 21st century. I am currently producing "Scott Bennett: Stuff", a stand up special for Radio 4, Jojo Sutherland's "Riches to Rags" and Troy Hawke's "Sigmund Troy'd", all for BBC Radio 4.

I have been nominated for the Gethin Thomas Award for Best Comedy Producer twice in 2021 and 2022, because someone has to make up the numbers. Aside from his my biggest achievement is beating an email in a race.

In between producing comedy I have produced and presented programmes for BBC Radio 2, Radio 4, Radio Wales and World Service.
