Review: Omid Djalili @ Tyne Theatre & Opera House, Newcastle

Precision-provocative when he needs to be and never less than warm and genuine, after a lockdown spent doing Zoom gigs in his lavatory Djalili seemed thrilled to be back on stage.

First West Didsbury Comedy Festival line-up announced

The line-up has been announced for the West Didsbury Comedy Festival, a new festival taking place in the Manchester suburb of, yes, you guessed correctly, Didsbury.

Why do some comics make it big and not others?

There are all sorts of comedians I thought would make it but for some reason or other didn't. I tipped Marc Wootton for stardom in the Evening Standard so often it started to become embarrassing. People probably thought we must be related. I also think Boothby Graffoe could have been a mainstream star. Even Addy Van Der Borgh could have been a Saturday night shiny-floored clown. But for some reason none of these people made it as big as I expected. There is still time I guess. Maybe not enough time to get to the O2 this Friday, but there is always next year.

Interview: rarely asked questions - Boothby Graffoe

Every couple of years I sit down at my laptop and write the words "why isn't Boothby Graffoe a household name?". It's that time again.

Review - Boothby Graffoe: Scratch!

Boothby Graffoe puts his wallet where his mouth is, while arguing persuasively that the lottery and scratchcards are a pernicious, state-supported mirage that prey on the poorest and most desperate.

Comedy review: Boothby Graffoe, Glasgow

Currently mourning the loss of a prop, The Wheel of Almost Certain Misfortune, which was stolen earlier this week following a show at the Stand's sister venue in Edinburgh, Boothby Graffoe didn't let his bad luck throw him.
