Born John Barry Humphries and perhaps better known as his alter ego Dame Edna Everage, Humphries is a British-based Australian comedian, actor and satirist. Rising to prominence in London during the 1960s' satire boom, he was an early contributor to Private Eye and appeared in the original production of musical Oliver!. He has enjoyed dozens of film and television roles, most often in the guise of Dame Edna or other characters such as Sir Les Patterson.
