Kurupt FM wins Best Comedy Podcast 2021

The results of the British Podcast Awards 2021 were revealed at the weekend.

The Kurupt FM Podkast was selected by judges in the Best Comedy Podcast category.

The Audible-based show features People Just Do Nothing stars Allan Mustafa, Hugo Chegwin, Asim Chaudhry and Steve Stamp appearing in character as MC Grindah, DJ Beats, Chabuddy G and DJ Steves.

This was the second year in a row the podcast has won in the category. The organisers say it's "a show who's effortless humour in its characters provided serious laugh-out-loud comedy."

SeanceCast took the Silver award, with Poppy Hillstead Has Entered The Chat claiming Bronze. The other nominees in the category were Beef And Dairy Network, Dear Joan And Jericha and Hidden Ireland.

The Skewer

Elsewhere in the list of winners, Radio 4's The Skewer picked up the Best Radio Podcast title. Producer Jon Holmes said the win was "an honour in a tough category".

The judges said the winner was, "a breathtaking, stop-what-you're-doing show that's equal parts hilarious and nightmarish, contemporaneous and timeless. A truly unique and interesting take on audio storytelling."

Jess Robinson

And Stars In Your Ears, the show by impressionist Jess Robinson, won in the Entertainment category. She tweeted: "I can't believe it! We won!!!! BEST ENTERTAINMENT PODCAST. I'm all emotional."

The organisers say: "In a very strange year and in a field that is brimming with a lot of entertaining podcasts, this one stood out as bold and totally unique. It's clear that the host spends every second on this podcast having fun with a total commitment of creativity, energy and ambition to the podcast from all involved, that was topped off with outstanding production values. It kept a smile on the judges faces throughout."

James Acaster's Perfect Sounds picked up the silver award in the category, with A Gay And A NonGay claiming bronze.


The winners were announced at an outdoor awards festival "like no other" at Brockwell Park, South London, on Saturday. Crime podcast RedHanded won the Listeners' Choice Award, with Sh**ged Married Annoyed starring Chris Ramsey and Rosie Ramsey in the runner-up spot.

Vent Documentaries was named Podcast Of The Year. The full list of winners across all categories can be seen at britishpodcastawards.com
