Adam Buxton has been crowned Podcast Champion at the first British Podcast Awards.

The award recognises the person that has "done the most to help and develop podcasts in 2016."

The Adam Buxton Podcast was launched in 2015 and sees the comedy star chat to various people who work in entertainment. The episodes are also punctuated by memorable musical jingles made by the host.

Recent guests have included US podcasting star Marc Maron, author Zadie Smith and comic actor Steve Coogan.
Notable episodes include an Adam & Joe reunion show, and an episode in which Buxton's friend Louis Theroux discusses his encounters with Jimmy Savile.

Meanwhile, in the Best Comedy Podcast category, Beef And Dairy Network Podcast was given the Gold award. The show, devised by Benjamin Partridge, is a spoof magazine-format show for "those involved or just interested in the production of beef animals and dairy herds."

The award follows on from Radio 4 acquiring the repeat rights for the programme, with episodes currently being broadcast on Wednesday nights.

Also nominated in the category were The Adam Buxton Podcast, The Scummy Mummies Podcast and BCG hosted shows Do The Right Thing and Richard Herring's Leicester Square Theatre Podcast.

Buxton's show was awarded the Silver prize, with Danielle Ward's Do The Right Thing taking the Bronze.

Beef And Dairy Network Podcast also picked up a Bronze award in the Best Fiction Podcast category, with undertaker sitcom Wooden Overcoats taking the Silver.
