  • Will launch on Nickelodeon's digital platforms on Friday 15th January
  • Star Wars actor John Boyega will voice Dutch, the slow loris character

The UK and Ireland division of Nickelodeon has commissioned it's first original comedy series for digital platforms, an animated series about two time-travelling animals.

Entitled Tinkershrimp & Dutch, the five minute five-episode series will premiere across Nickelodeon's websites and catch-up service later this month.

The comedy follows the adventures of Tinkershrimp, who is a langoustine (a lobster type sea creature); and Dutch, a slow loris.

The best friends act as time-travelling bodyguards for the eccentric monarch of New Great Great Britain, King Hunnybun III. The team lives and travels around the country in the Royal Double Decker - a castle on wheels - and must battle the nemesis of the series: Michael The Fowl, a fun-hating headless chicken.

The show will be the first Nickelodeon UK original series commissioned specifically for digital platforms. Nickelodeon explains: "Each episode will see Tinkershrimp and Dutch run back in time in order to stop Michael's dastardly plots."

Star Wars actor John Boyega voices Dutch, with Submarine star Darren Evans as Tinkershrimp. Other voices are provided by Sam Riley and Alex Lowe. The main theme and score of the series is written and performed by Franz Ferdinand's Nick McCarthy.

Gregor Stevenson, who co-created the series with Chris Stack, says: "We wanted to create characters and a world where anything could happen, so spent a lot of time coming up with the most insane, hyper-British situations we could think of. At the core of it though, is basically a story about a group of friends who are trying to have a good time. Oh, and they can travel back in time to foil the schemes of Michael The Fowl, our evil headless chicken."

The series has been developed by London-based creative agency Ralph. Those who access the series via Nickelodeon's websites will also be able to take part in interactive activities within the series, such as helping Tinkershrimp and Dutch spot Michael The Fowl in order to thwart his latest devious plan; and creating disguises for the evil chicken.

Suzie Adams from Nickelodeon says: "Tinkershrimp & Dutch is hilarious with brilliant characters and ingenious storytelling. We want to delight and surprise our audience and are committed to providing great content across all platforms. Tinkershrimp & Dutch is an example of our investment in high-quality entertainment for the digital space."

John Boyega concludes: "Loads of fart jokes, loads of burp jokes, what more does a kid want?"

Tinkershrimp & Dutch will launch on Nickelodeon's website and its catch-up service, Nick Play, on Friday 15th January. A trailer is available to view now at nick.co.uk/tinkdutch
