Life On Wheels. Barry Wright (Andy Dear)

Barry Wright (Series )

Played by: Andy Dear

Generous, but at times furtive, Barry is a disabled wheelchair user from Harlow in Essex. He manages a local six-a-side power league football team called the Harlow Rifles and is the main focus of observational documentary Life On Wheels.

Beneath a gruff exterior, Barry has a good heart and runs a variety of classes at a local community centre, to help out the disabled and elderly 'Harlowians'. He's even enthusiastic about it some days.

Despite his pious public persona, Barry has his flaws and is usually on the make, looking for ways to profit from his "good deeds".

Life On Wheels. Joe Dear (Simon Killick)

Joe Dear (Series )

Played by: Simon Killick

Sweet, trusting and blissfully unhygienic, Joe Dear is the goalkeeper for the Harlow Rifles.

He's a simple soul who has recently fallen on hard times, during which he lost his job and subsequently, became homeless.

His old friend Barry saw Joe sleeping rough in a doorway outside the local kebab shop one night, and offered to give him a place to stay... Although the living conditions are not exactly luxurious, Joe is appreciative. He doesn't expect much out of life and always has a smile on his face.

Life On Wheels. Tommy O'Conner (Jamie McDonald)

Tommy O'Conner (Series )

Played by: Jamie McDonald

Steely-eyed and ferocious, Tommy is of Irish decent but was born and bred in Harlow. Sure, at first glance, he appears intimidating and dangerous, but alongside these traits, a gentler Tommy lurks underneath. Far underneath.

Privacy is very important to Tommy. He is notorious in the locality and feared by many due to his questionable approach to peace-keeping and some potentially illegal activities involving badgers. But is there more to Tommy than meets the eye?

Life On Wheels. Ruth Kennedy (Holly Rose Hawgood)

Ruth Kennedy (Series )

Ruth Kennedy has only recently joined the Harlow Rifles after having been recruited by Barry, as part of his attempt to tackle a lack of diversity on the team. (She's a woman.)

Ruth is a local girl with straightforward values but can have a very fiery temper if she feels liberties are being taken. She works as a cook at the local community centre where Barry runs some classes. She also likes to help people and is kind: no good deed is ever too much trouble for Ruth.

She is a single mum who lives with her mum Sharon, and her little boy Harry.

Life On Wheels. Jimmy Chimes (Harry Belcher)

Jimmy Chimes (Series )

Played by: Harry Belcher

Jimmy is a 35 year-old Essex wide boy who loves to big himself up, especially around ladies, but still lives at home with his mum and dad.

He is a black cab driver who will only work locally, as central London traffic gives him anxiety. A self-professed lothario, his romantic escapades are often scuppered because he always says exactly what's on his mind; he has no filter. (Although
this may, in fact, be his most endearing quality.)

His mum dotes over him, washing all his clothes, making him dinner and generally treating him like he is still a kid. And it shows. Jimmy has a longrunning feud with Amaraj (the Uber driver) who also plays for the team.

Life On Wheels. Amaraj Anand (Paul Sangam)

Amaraj Anand (Series )

Played by: Paul Sangam

Timid, bookish Amaraj hails from Wolverhampton and he moved to Harlow about ten years ago for an arranged marriage to his wife, Meera. Luckily, she turned out to be smart and a great cook and they are happily married with two children.

As part of the dowry, Raj inherited a local mini cab business which he could not manage to keep afloat. Raj loves football and really enjoys his time with the lads, even though himself and Jimmy are always bickering.

Life On Wheels. August Ford Walters (Jayden JP Denis)

August Ford Walters (Series )

Played by: Jayden JP Denis

August, (17), is the youngest player on the team and lives on the local council estate, one of the roughest in the area. He is incredibly gifted academically and a great footballer with bags of talent, it could be said that he is much too good for this team.

Rather than hang around with his hoodlum counterparts on the estate he prefers to distance himself, studying hard at school and doing as many extra curricular activities as he can.

Life On Wheels. Emma Clark (Ruth Syratt)

Emma Clark (Series )

the Producer/Director.   Played by: Ruth Syratt

Emma is the filmmaker of the documentary Life On Wheels. She has spent the last six months with Barry and the Rifles documenting their trials and tribulations.

Life On Wheels is her second series in the Disability season she has embarked upon, the first being Life in The Dark following Clive Bloom, a blind goalkeeper from Scotland.
