Gavin & Stacey - A Special Christmas

Gavin & Stacey - A Special Christmas

It's been ten years since we spent Christmas with the Shipmans and the Wests. Last time it was Billericay - but the deal has always been to alternate, and this year we're heading to Barry where Uncle Bryn's cooking dinner for over thirteen people.

The brand new, acclaimed festive special has now been seen by millions upon millions of viewers, and is one of the most-watched television programmes of the entire last decade. If you missed out you can catch up for free on iPlayer; or add it to your collection to watch time and time again at your leisure, with this DVD released today.

Jem Roberts - Fab Fools

Jem Roberts - Fab Fools

Pre-order. Paperback

"Part of me would sooner have been a comedian, I just don't have the guts to stand up and do it! But I would love to be in Monty Python rather than The Beatles..." - John Lennon, 1980.

There are many Beatles books out there - but NOBODY has yet told the story of the greatest band of all time's real X factor, that special something which elevated them above all their competitors - The Beatles' COMEDY. This is the last remaining untold Beatles story worth telling.

Comedy historian and official biographer of Fry & Laurie, Douglas Adams, I'm Sorry I Haven't A Clue and Blackadder, Jem Roberts charts the fab four's comedy chops in this fascinating new book, bringing in the stars of 1960s comedy and beyond - from George Formby to Ken Dodd - right up to Monty Python, Richard Curtis, and the hit 2019 comedy feature Yesterday.

Plus, a long-overdue celebration of the now-late Neil Innes and the ultimate Beatles spoof group, The Rutles.

The Love Ban

The Love Ban

Pre-order. Blu-ray, DVD

A rumbustious adult comedy from director-producer powerhouse team Ralph Thomas and Betty Box, The Love Ban (aka It's A 2'6" Above The Ground World) stars Hywel Bennett and Nanette Newman as an enthusiastically procreative couple with a family planning problem.

Based on the hit stage play - and also featuring Nicky Henson and John Cleese - it is presented here as a brand-new high definition transfer from the original film elements in its original theatrical aspect ratio.

Sick Note - Series Two

Sick Note - Series Two

Pre-order. DVD

Diagnosed with cancer, Daniel (Rupert Grint) finds his life is quite different: friends, family and colleagues treat him better and give his often lazy, selfish attitude much more leway. But he's been 'blessed' with the most incompetent oncologist in the world (Nick Frost) and the diagnosis is soon unearthed as an error.

As Dr Glennis is desperate to cover up his mistake and Daniel is embarrassed and torn by his change in circumstances, a multi-layered series of lies begin spiralling ever further out of control, threatening to take over both men's lives.

In this second series of the Sky sitcom, originally broadcast in 2018, Daniel finds himself under the thumb of a new no-nonsense boss, played by Hollywood star Lindsay Lohan.

Jeremy Hardy Speaks Volumes

Jeremy Hardy Speaks Volumes

Pre-order. eBook, Hardback

Jeremy Hardy, who died in February last year, was one of the most distinctive comedians to arise from the 80s alternative comedy circuit.

Regularly entertaining the millions who heard his outrageous rants on The News Quiz and his notoriously bad singing on I'm Sorry I Haven't A Clue, his comedy could be both personal and political, ranging in topics from prison reform to parenting, from British identity to sex.

Jeremy Hardy Speaks Volumes is a fitting celebration to this much-missed comedian. Containing material from his stand-up, radio monologues and political satire to the joyfully silly gems - and curated to encompass everything about Jeremy that fans adored - the book is wise, daft, outrageous, satirical, personal and, above all, very funny: like Jeremy himself.

Nighty Night

Nighty Night

As we enter a new decade it's prescient to wonder how BBC Three's shows may be remembered in the future, now it's an online brand rather than a full television channel. Of course, only time will tell how today's cult hits will go down in the history books, but here's such a celebrated sitcom from Three's previous life: celebrating its 16th anniversary today is Julia Davis's horrific, wildly dark, acclaimed cult hit Nighty Night. Co-starring the likes of Angus Deayton, Ruth Jones, Kevin Eldon and Rebecca Front, it would extend to two equally unhinged series and remains one of the most prominent cult hits of the 2000s. If you like your comedy dark there's little better. Catch the series on DVD; digital download; or on iPlayer for the next few months.
