Guide Spotlight The New Statesman

This week marks the 30th anniversary of political sitcom The New Statesman first appearing on television. Rik Mayall memorably portrayed the slimey politician in four series of the show, plus the subsequent stage shows. When Mayall died in 2014, writers Laurence Marks and Maurice Gran wrote a funny obituary for the character. Earlier this year they announced plans for a new spin-off focusing on Alan's son, so the B'Stard legacy may yet continue... Guide
